Veneers
Veneers are a custom-made shell of tooth-colored material used to cover imperfections of the teeth. Once only used by actors and actresses, veneers are now widely available, even if you have never starred in a movie.
When the movie industry began, actors did not always have the best-looking teeth. Before appearing in a film, they called their dentists to have the appearance of their teeth improved. Veneers were invented to cover stains, chips, gaps, or misshaped teeth. At that time, the veneers were only temporary as the glues available were not strong enough to last very long.
As adhesive technology advanced, the performance of dental glue has improved. Veneers are now a more permanent appliance. To perform a good bond, a small amount of tooth enamel is removed, but it is much less than other types of restorations.
The veneer is made of either porcelain or composite resin. Both types are easily matched in color to the surrounding teeth and to look like a natural tooth. Porcelain does not stain easily and is the stronger of the two. Composite resin is more economical and can be placed in a shorter amount of time (possibly just one visit).
Dr. Tom B. Curtis offers veneers for a tooth restoration option.
